Bike it to Ballidu Gravel
Saturday 21st September 2024
Bike It to Ballidu originated in 1999 by Matt Osborne. It was originally designed to be a simple fundraising activity for the Ballidu Primary School, a physical challenge with the senior room students. They would ride from Wongan Hills Tourist Information Bay to Ballidu Primary School to fundraise for the school camp. Parents became so excited about the idea they decided to join in and help their children fundraise.
Bike it to Ballidu has been a beloved bike event that welcomes everyone in the Wongan-Ballidu area. Bike it to Ballidu has always been about bringing people together and having fun, and in 2023 the group teamed up with WestCycle to make the event on GRAVEL and... bigger and better than ever before. The event attracted over 300 riders and 500 visitors to Ballidu over the course of the weekend.
The unique blend of family-focused, novelty rides, serious grinding on some of the State’s most diverse gravel – and a buzzing event village and post-event party – saw the inaugural event become one of just three SportWest Community Sporting Event of the Year finalists!
For this year’s Boekeman Machinery | Case IH Bike it to Ballidu Gravel event WestCycle have acted on rider feedback to remove some boggy and thorny sections from the rides, while adding in some new segments selected from the Shire’s epic 1000km+ of gravel roads, trails and paths.
Think rolling hills, vast canola fields, sparkling lakes, private farmers’ paths (exclusively made available to us), salt plains, wildflower sanctuaries, forested growths, Mid-West scrub…
