Appointment of a CESM

Earlier this year, the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu submitted a request to the Commissioner at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) for the services of a Community Emergency Services Manager (CESM). A CESM will provide a wide array of services to the district, ranging from support in bushfire mitigation, volunteer training, incident response support, funding advocacy, as well as other emergency services support including involvement with the Local Emergency Management Committee.

The Shire's previously identified need for a CESM was further highlighted following the significant bushfires which affected our Shire earlier this year. In the 2023-2024 financial year, the Shire lost 2000 hectares of land to bushfire devastation. Our local Bushfire Brigades and local Volunteer Brigades provide an exceptional service, and we are grateful for their dedication to the roles they play in supporting our community.

The Shire is very pleased to announce that we have been successful in securing a CESM through a shared service arrangement with the Shire of Victoria Plains. Nic Parry will join the Shire as a CESM on the week commencing 19th August 2024. Nic will be working with the Shire in a part-time capacity (two to three days per week). We look forward to working with Nic to carry out the Shires strategic planning goals in relation to emergency services management and preparing for the upcoming bushfire season.
